Tessellations

This week for maths we learnt about Tessellations and how to create them using shapes or cutouts.
I created my cutout tessellation by having one square piece of cardboard and cut through the shape and added it to the opposite end of where I cut it out and it ended up like this;
After that, I copied it onto my sheet with a pencil then coloured it in!

This is my cut out tessellation;

This is also my normal shape tessellation;

Quick wright - Powerless animation

Powerless animation

This week for writing we watched an animation called powerless.
We had a criteria for level 3 writing. This is the criteria;
Use a very short sentence.
Start your sentence with an AAWWUBBIS (Opener sentence)
Ly start – Start a sentence with a ly adverb.
Em – dash. A dash is used to set off information in a sentence with dramatic flair.
The subject sentence. Start your sentence with the subject. (Interrupter)
The colours is a key for the writing
I used this criteria to create this piece of writing so here's mine;
When night reaches a small unstable house surrounded by large pine trees, tiny strange looking fairies lurking in the trees creep out into the dark.
When one fairy reaches the house, it begins to see an old rustic robot in front of an old man. He quickly flew through the twisted chimney and into the intake pipe on top of the head. The eyes awakened. They began to turn a bright green and the gears and gauges sprang into life. It only wanted one thing. To save its friend.
The aged robot crept out of the door and into the woods. As the old door creaked, the old man woke up and noticed the door was open. The robot continued to, slowly step by step, walk into the woods. There the old man found the robot trying and trying hard to pull a large log up. Under the log, he found a red fairy struggling to get out. The old man quickly ran to the log and pulled as well. When they eventually pulled the log over, the green fairy flew back out of the intake pipe and started to fly away.
The old man then started to walk away - disappointed, colourless. The fairies soon noticed and felt sad. They can see how hard he worked on the useless machine. He only wanted one thing. A power source. And that was what the fairies did. Suddenly they span around in a circle creating bright blue sparkles. Now the robot was alive…

Character vignette - Long living

Our class made a piece of writing by looking at a picture and jot down all the things we noticed I went for a sad story called long living this is it.

Long living

I stood there. With my shoulder blades leaning the wire like laying a blanket on a washing line. I can see them, those big kids talking on the bridge, but they can’t see me. I just stayed where I was. They don’t care. A voice then spoke it sounded familiar. ‘You’re useless,’ then I knew that was just me. ‘I don’t care what anyone says to me, they’ll always be right,’ I mouthed to myself.

As I kept on cursing to myself, every once in awhile I felt the chance. The chance where I can stand up to my brother and all his friends. I could see the dead, wasteland-like leaves blow though the cold air and the skeletal trees lurching over the land. It was God. Until just when I was ready to stand up, it stopped. Like no-one cares about me. Every sudden move I make, I feel like it disturbs the whole environment.

While the brown leaves obscured my new sneakers, it reminded me of dad. Where is he when I need him. He told my older brother to look after me but he didn’t he chooses social more than his family.
I don’t want anything or anyone to put me down. I’m like a rabbit buried alive in its burrow. But then. I finally dig out from my imprisonment exposed to all my surroundings.
‘Who cares what they think of me!’ I said almost shouting it out but I didn’t want to carry it too far.

I’m going to go up to them and correct my brother. He needs to think about family not friends. ‘Who cares if I get embarrassed!’ I said. ‘I’m ready.’

My calendar art

Every year each class made different calendar art. This year in room 2 we made zentangle animals.
Zentangle got its name 'zen' because it's supposed to be a calm type of art.

Here's my owl I made;

Circular nonsense

Our maths project was all about learning the diagonals of a shape.
A diagonal is from one corner of a shape to another corner.
Here is all the diagonals of a pentagon: As you can see it looks like a five point star because there are five corners so a ten sided decagon will make a ten point star by connecting all the diagonals

You might be thinking what about a circle? A circle has infinite diagonals, but you can actually make any point star with a circle for example you can create a ten point star by doing this;

A circle is a 360o  angle so if you want a ten point star you have to;
Divide 360 by 10 = 36 now use the protractor and measure the angle of 36 degrees starting from a line drawn from the of the circle. Each time you measure 36 degrees draw a new line and then measure the degrees again.

This is my 18 point star some parts got messed up but it was pretty hard to make;

Starry Night REMIX!

Based off my dads favorite artwork - Starry Night and with the help from Mrs Cameron I was able to make one beautiful piece of art.
We planned this on our bubble catcher then copied it with pastel onto a plain black piece of paper.
After that we painted staying with the motion of the lines but not just paint we used a technique called double dipping. As you can see you dip a paint brush into any paint you like but instead of mixing it with a different colour you dip the paintbrush into any paint then dip it again into another type of paint and keep on painting!
When we finished the painting we added houses a black piece of paper and added small coloured pieces of paper mostly yellow for the lights. You're probably wondering, Llew doesn't look like you added paper to your artwork? What I did is sketch the houses for full detail with pilot pen and coloured it with blue pen and black pen as well as pencil on the edges.

This is my Starry Night REMIX

Quick Wright - Flight

For this quick wright we had to look at a picture and jot down the surroundings and what the character is doing at that very moment. We had to use complex sentences and short sharp sentences. Try and spot them all.

This is what the picture looked like.

Flight

The lively sky is bright, blue and shimmering on the still water. The buildings are watching and towering over the road far off in the dull distance. The gleaming rays warm the jagged wharf heating my feet. I finally find the light that can set me free.
I think to myself. This is the time. As my body surges with adrenaline, I climb on top of the rustic wooden barrier. With my arms spread out, and the calm breeze flowing past my chest.
I wait. Standing. Until I leap. With my arms high behind my back like the wings of a bird, the silence brakes. An immense splash awakens the city. When the chill of the water touches my toe, I can feel the excitement. As the freezing water infects my body, I think about all the good times in my life.

I lie still. Drifting away, but happy.

Life of an egg

For K.O.S we had to protect an egg just like how you have to protect a baby. My egg was called EGG MARLEY!
Our goal is to NOT LET IT CRACK! But about 2/3 of people cracked there egg.
Sadly I cracked my egg the most tragic time in my life. Just when my egg fell out I was standing still thinking "what just happened?" And I then tears ran down my face. That tragic moment though!

Picture of all the boys eggs in tom's majestic baby cram. Egg marly is on the bottom right!

New comer!

For K.O.S we had to create some kind of bed for a egg we had to name the egg and stay with it for a week you CAN'T let it out of your site. The only way we can leave it out of our site is to get a egg-sitter.

I named my egg EGG MARLY!

]--=[The Sprint]=--[

The Sprint.

Walk up into the crowd.
The silence embarks.
Foot on the line.
Crouches,
Stretches,
Breathes,
Steady’s into position.
Wobbles a bit.
Grips hands.
Peering at the finish line
Gaining sweat already.

And waits
                     Waits
                                     And waits

A big SNAP fills the air.
Bolts past
His legs
Vibrate,
Wobble,
Quiver,
Pounds upon the track.
He trembles.

And
Stumbles upon the finish line.

To The unknown soldier

For our writing we created a letter to a soldier we don't know anything about and that is still buried and not cared about. We had to use complex sentences and short powerful sentences. If you go into our room to on your right you will see a wall filled with bright red poppies and you will also see all our pieces of writing!
- This is my writing -
To the unknown soldier

As I sit down, I want you to remember this note. Although you’re in a cold damp muddy place, don’t give up. Your spirit is still with us.

I don’t know your name, how many medals you have or even your special story about your life. But I have learn’t about people's life in the war. And your life in the wet, grubby and hard trenches. Putting all your hard work into one useless thing. Life must of been tragic then. We have learnt about the different ways you send letters. We know about the ANZAC’s and our whole class did a project about ANZAC day. We heard about you burying your dead mates. Did you ever bury one of the Turkish soldiers and felt sorry about them?

When you were in the trenches, what were you thinking when those bullets flew straight past your head? Did you ever have some fun? Talking to your friends, playing games with the dogs and sending funny notes to each other. Maybe you stared up in the gloomy night sky wanting to be back home with your family.

I cannot imagine when your friends, pets or even enemies fell beside you? How did you feel when you felt the trigger for the first time? Did you feel power? Did you ever feel enraged with the enemy or did you feel sorry? What was it like when it was so hot and you had to cut you uniform and also stick cloth on the back of your hat to protect yourself from the rays.

I’m only young. 11 in fact. But hopefully you remember this note and you will still be in our warm hearts. I wonder what life would of been like when I was in war.

Yours sincerely Llewellyn WL

-<>-Anzac Biscuits-<>-

Anzac (Australia New Zealand army corps) biscuits are made to celebrate anzac day.
Before ANZAC troops sailed to Gallipoli they trained in Egypt, but where did they get the food you might be thinking well, the troops wives, sisters, mothers or girlfriends sent food to all the ANZAC troops. But a lot of the food will get rotten of expire, then a woman came up with a nutritional type of Scottish recipe called an ANZAC biscuit.

I will tell you more information on how to make the biscuit but the biscuit used rolled oats, sugar, plain flour, coconut, golden syrup or treacle, bi-carbonate of soda and boiling water.

-~[The Recipe]~-

1 cup rolled oats

1 cup plain flour
1 cup sugar
3/4 (three-quarters) cup coconut
125g (4 oz) butter
2 tablespoons golden syrup
½ (half) teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
1 tablespoon boiling water
Combine oats, sifted flour, sugar and coconut.
Combine butter and golden syrup, stir over gentle heat until melted.
Mix soda with boiling water, add to melted butter mixture, stir into dry ingredients.
Take teaspoonfuls of mixture and place on lightly greased oven trays; allow room for spreading.
Cook in slow oven (150°C) for 20 minutes.
Loosen while still warm, then cool on trays.
Makes about 35.
